Invitation to Retreats – Rest is Resistance!

As Spring is in full bloom, we at Gemse, are warming up the space and our hearts to welcome you to a space to rest, regenerate and refuel for the constant movements in the world which move us.

Taking our learnings from last year, we have come to re-design the format of these retreats to respond to different groups/individuals’ needs and track our own resources to be able to hold space for care and rest for others. We offer three formats, with varying degrees of flexibility, hosting resources and structural support.

Who is this for?
For people who are affected by and/or have to deal with issues of inequality and power dynamics. Since we are addressing anti-racism and white privilege, we are explicitly inviting BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).

1) Hosted retreats on fixed dates
– These would be a fixed week of retreat offered every alternate month where the groups can expect a host from Gemse to support/organise/ for the entire week. Accommodation, travel expenses (400 Euros max.), and food expenses (300 Euros max.) are paid by GemSe.

2) Assisted group retreats
– These would be a retreat week (or less) co-designed with the groups including flexibility of dates, structure of the week and what kind of hosting the group would want from Gemse. Accommodation, travel expenses (400 Euros max.), and food expenses (300 Euros max.) are paid by GemSe.

3) Non-hosted (or basic hosting) individual retreats
– These format is offered all year round on flexible dates for individuals. Only accommodation is covered not travel expenses or food.
We already have some dates where we can offer the full house for you.

*Friday 17th of July until Thursday 23rd of July (already booked)
*Wednesday 16th of September until Wednesday 23rd of September
*Wednesday 11th of November until Wednesday 18th of November.

GemSe has about 25 beds, possibilities for camping, one movement room, seminar rooms, a Café etc.

“Love. A Woman Caught Between Care Work and Political Resistance”

The Hungarian People’s Republic during the Rákosi era.
Luca’s husband, a dissident artist, was arrested by the state police and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The only routine in Luca’s derailed life is her visits to her 90-year-old mother-in-law.
Luca knows: the old woman will never see her son again. To avoid upsetting her sensitive mother in her twilight years, she invents stories: almost every day, a new letter arrives at her mother-in-law’s house, explaining her son’s absence and making the waiting more bearable.

Where: GemSe, Wertschach 15
When: 12th and 13th of May 2026, 7.30 pm
Seat Reservation: 0664-5368400

Skillsharing-Wochenende 03.-06.09.2026

We warmly invite you to our Skillsharing Weekend at the GemSe!

At this queer-feminist, solidarity-based community space in the Gailtal, we create a space together where we inspire each other and learn from one another. The GemSe is a social meeting point and project space in nature, where encounter, collective learning, and solidarity are at the heart of everything – far from everyday life, right in the middle of the green.

Murmeltierbau expands GemSe

In recent weeks, a small group within our community has begun to establish the “Murmeltierbau” as a complementary collaborative project centered around GemSe.
An additional small association has been founded, and a direct loan campaign has already been launched to purchase the neighboring house.

For more information about the project and direct loans please send an email to: murmeltierbau[at]riseup[dot]net
