Im Bus, in der Warteschlange oder am Familientisch – immer wieder erleben wir Situationen, die uns gegen den Strich gehen. Diskriminierende Aussagen, dominante Gesprächsführung oder gewaltvolle Handlungen bringen uns oft an die Grenzen unseres eigenen Handlungsspielraums.
Was passiert da eigentlich? Schaue ich weg oder schreite ich ein? Traue ich mich, etwas zu sagen? Und wenn ja – was?
Spend four days together on the trail, take a deep breath, go hiking, and enjoy November in the Gailtal and Julian Alps.
From November 19–22, we invite you to Wertschach in the Gailtal Valley. We want to explore the beautiful mountain landscape with you, go on short hikes, spend time in the forest, and recharge our batteries for winter together.

GemSe is a social meeting place and project space surrounded by nature, where connection, collective learning and solidarity are at the heart of everything we do – far away from everyday life, right in the middle of the countryside.

A circus of zeitgeist and tradition. Austrian mainstream culture turned upside down and juggled with one’s feet: yeast dough juggling, acrobatics, Gstanzl, bottle walking, Schuhplatteln, tavern brawls, and raucous, subversive laughter.

“Love. A Woman Caught Between Care Work and Political Resistance”
The Hungarian People’s Republic during the Rákosi era.
Luca’s husband, a dissident artist, was arrested by the state police and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The only routine in Luca’s derailed life is her visits to her 90-year-old mother-in-law.
Luca knows: the old woman will never see her son again. To avoid upsetting her sensitive mother in her twilight years, she invents stories: almost every day, a new letter arrives at her mother-in-law’s house, explaining her son’s absence and making the waiting more bearable.

As Spring is in full bloom, we at Gemse, are warming up the space and our hearts to welcome you to a space to rest, regenerate and refuel for the constant movements in the world which move us.
Taking our learnings from last year, we have come to re-design the format of these retreats to respond to different groups/individuals’ needs and track our own resources to be able to hold space for care and rest for others. We offer three formats, with varying degrees of flexibility, hosting resources and structural support.
This is a great opportunity to get to know GemSe, reconnect, or strengthen your relationship with the community. During the Mini-Anpacktage, we’ll work together on GemSe and the Murmeltierbau, cleaning, sprucing things up, eating, and having a good time. We’ll decide together on-site exactly what we’ll be doing during the Mini-Anpacktage in June.

The exhibition sheds light on the little-known Alpine Front of World War I—a battlefield at extreme altitudes where soldiers from all over Europe fought under the most adverse conditions. Pairs of images offer different perspectives and invite visitors to reflect on contradictions, memory, and shared history.
